Ben Johnson: Modern Perspectives | Exhibitions | The National Gallery, London

Ben Johnson (b. 1946, Llandudno, Wales) is a British painter, whose interest in architecture has allowed him to explore geometric forms, industrial surfaces, and historic places through an idealized lens. Working on oversized canvases, Johnson’s paintings are immersive, depicting cavernous architectural interiors as well as panoramas of cities that seem to stretch as far as the eye can possibly see. Johnson continues to push the boundaries of his airbrush, with each painting capturing more detail than the last.

Johnson studied at the Royal College of Art and has lived and worked in London since 1965. His work is included in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, amongst others.
